quite recently, watchtower in sweden applied for governmental financial support, as they are entitled to as a registered religious community.
however, the government declined to accept the application, stating that the reason was that the jws do not adhere to democratic values and standards and do not support mainstream values.. the witnesses are upset, because they feel discriminated against.
they state that the financial issue is not the real issue, but to be treated in a similar way as other religious communities.. they have appealed the decision and plan to send a report explaining the witnesses views in more detail.. the branch office chose the religious, pentecostal (assembly of god) newspaper "dagen" to make an interview.. here is the photo report of the article.. .
I hate to sound like a Watchtower advocate here, but keep in mind this is not government money that is going to the Watchtower, its money that individuals are paying in to the government to distribute to the religions. If X% of the money came from adherents of religion Y, then religion Y gets that percentage of the money.
If they are not going to give the Watchtower their share of the money, then JWs should not be required to pay the money into the government in the first place.

Especially when the author claims to have questioned the GB's decision, and then actually runs ahead of them by saying "let's all start family worship!"
I have to be honest, I was like "why?"
So the question in my mind now is - why have to wait for persecution? Let's make the family worship a habit right now! :-)

from the tv show "america's most wanted" on saturday, sept 26: michael calhoun - 39 y/o white male, 6', 210 lbs - convicted of rape and the attempted murder of an elderly woman.
wanted for failing to register as a violent sexual predator in ashtabula county, ohio.
he has psoriasis, is believed to be dealing drugs, and could be hiding out in a jehovah's witness community (amw did not elaborate as to why he could be hiding amongst witnesses).

they can be allowed to return once they've demonstrated their repentence by completely confessing their wrongdoing to "Ceasar" and dutifully accepting whatever punishment is meted out. And since they are repentant they would also want to make sure that members of any congregation they associate with are made aware clearly and openly about what kind of wrongdoing they have committed. And of course they would never ever be given any kind of responsibility in the congregation ever. Nor would they be allowed to engage in the field ministry without at least one elder accompanying them the whole time. In fact, it would be best if their field service was limited to writing letters or possibly phone witnessing.
I don't think any of these requirements are excessive or restrictive. Actually the Watchtower could have avoided many problems years ago by simply implementing this kind of policy. Why they didn't, and still don't is a mystery...

My father was an elder and Presiding Overseer and for years "got away" with molesting his daughter. Even after confessing, he was df'd for less than 6 months and is an active JW to this day.

ok, i'm sure i am not the first one to be in this predicament but it sure is a headache, my jw ex called a few days ago, apparently she has met someone (they're not dating of course!
) and she wants to me to hand over the golden ticket.
she wants confirmation either in writing or verbally to a third party, that she is "scripturally free" to remarry.. i have managed for years now to avoid any judicial action and my jw family members still associate with me, but that all could come to a screeching halt if i give her what she wants.. the only bright side is she totally robbed me on the divorce; if she gets married i am at least off the hook for "spousal maintenance", that would mean potentially thousands of dollars in my pocket.... .
I'm paying spousal maintenance because she put on a good sob story, and because my lawyer was amazingly imcompetent. Thanks to her, I now have a foreclosure on my credit history. But I digress...
startingover, I think different members of my JW family will react differently, my parents will probably keep up some kind of contact, they have both been DF'd and I never completely stopped having contact with them. I have one sister who for some reason is very strict when it comes to DFd family members. I am already on thin ice as it is.
